The Sacrament of Baptism
Congratulations on your child’s upcoming baptism! This is a special time for you and your family. Baptism is a precious gift give by God through the Church. As parents, we have the privilege of presenting our children to receive this gift, a gift that will last a life time and beyond!
Please understand that you are asking that your child be baptized into a faith community of the “Roman Catholic” discipline. If you are not married in the Church, you are not in compliance with that discipline and are now asking that your child receive a sacrament which is incongruent with your own family lifestyle. The Church is more than willing to help you put things right with your marriage. Please contact the parish office for more information.

The following is a list of the requirements for baptism at our parish. When you have completed all that is needed, please bring the documents to the parish office and a Baptism Coordinator will contact you. Baptisms will be scheduled during Mass on Sundays according to the availability of both your schedule and ours. Parents must be active in the parish community for a minimum of three months.
______Parents must view our Baptismal Preparation Video prior to selecting a godparent. You will receive a certificate of attendance after you have viewed the video that you will need to bring to the office. (The baptismal video only lasts about 1 hour and will answer many questions about the sacrament itself, what to expect from the Church, and what the Church expects from the parents and the godparents with respect to this child.)
You need at least one godparent, but may have two –a man and a woman. Those chosen to be godparents must be confirmed and active Catholics. Godparents must provide our parish office with the following that apply:
_________ A copy of the Confirmation certificate is required for each godparent.
_________ A certificate or letter of attendance to a baptismal preparation class
_________ If they are not parishioners of St. John Neumann, a signed and sealed letter from their own pastor must be provided to our office which states that they are active and participating parishioners. (A “witness” can stand in place of the second godparent, but the witness must be a baptized Christian to qualify for this privilege.)
_________ After viewing the Baptismal video, you will need to witness a couple of baptisms here at our church (but not on the same weekend). To provide documentation of this, please have the presiding priest sign a bulletin for you. Save the two bulletins and present them with your other documents.
_________ A copy of the child’s birth certificate
_________ Complete the sacristy record given to you at the Baptism Class. It must be signed by both natural parents. If one parent is deceased, please provide copy of death certificate.
If the child is adopted, please provide a copy of adoption papers.
________ The suggested donation associated with the handling of all these things is $50.00 and should be taken care of at the time of scheduling. Please note that if the preparations are made and you do not show up for the scheduled time of the baptism, the fee is non-refundable.
We thank you for your understanding and co-operation.

Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick
This sacrament (commonly known in the past as “The Last Sacrament”) has been misunderstood to be only for those who are about to die. Today, we see the benefits of using this sacrament in various stages of illness and before major surgeries. In case of hospitalization, please inform the admissions office that you are a Catholic, or let your nurse know if you would like to see a priest.
|
Eucharist for Sick or Homebound
Eucharist that is distributed during Communion can also be brought to those Catholics who are unable to attend Mass. Please contact our parish office to request an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist to visit you with this sacrament. In case of hospitalization, please inform the admissions office that you are a Catholic so that they will be able to notify ministers of the nearest parish.
|
Funeral Arrangements
Please call the parish office at any time. It will also be necessary to make arrangements with a funeral director. We will be coordinating with them and you to meet your needs and will be discussing the personal details of the service with you when you are able to stop by the parish.
|
Mass Intentions
Special intentions for regularly schedule Masses throughout the year are scheduled through the parish office during business hours. Only one person/family may have the intentions of the priest for any particular Mass, so please try to schedule several months or more in advance if you are looking for a particular date.
|
House Blessings
By virtue of the priestly mission we are all given through Baptism, parishioners are encouraged to bless their own homes. Appropriate prayers and holy water are provided by the parish and may be picked up in the office or the gift shop.
